['æfrɪkən næʃnl kaʊnsl, englisch], Abkürzung ANC, schwarzafrikanische Organisation, gegründet 1971, geführt von Alten Testament Muzorewa, trat in Rhodesien (heute Simbabwe) für die Schaffung eines Regierungssystems ein, das auf der schwarzafrikanischen Bevölkerungsmehrheit basieren und die Minderheitsherrschaft der Weißen ablösen sollte. 1974-76 bildete sie den organisatorischen Rahmen für alle schwarzafrikanischen Befreiungsbewegungen im Lande. Nach mehreren Spaltungen (zwischen 1975 und 1977) beteiligte sich der ANC als »United African National Congress« (UANC) an der Verwirklichung einer schwarzafrikanischen Mehrheitsherrschaft im Rahmen einer »Internen Lösung« (Simbabwe). Nach der Ausschreibung von Wahlen erhielt der UANC 1979 die absolute Mehrheit und stellte mit Muzorewa den Ministerpräsidenten. Nach der Entlassung Simbabwe-Rhodesiens als Simbabwe in die Unabhängigkeit (1980) verlor die Partei stark an Bedeutung; die 1980 gewonnenen drei Mandate verlor sie 1985.
